sudo wget https://yt-dl.org/downloads/latest/youtube-dl -O /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
sudo chmod a+rx /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
Now youtube-dl is installed but the user group is root, so to change it
sudo chown [user]:[user_group] /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
where [user] is your user name
and [user_group] is the group where your user name has privileges
Example :
sudo chown user:user /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
then to verify the file permission change
ls -l /usr/local/bin/youtube-dl
Windows users can [download an .exe file](https://yt-dl.org/latest/youtube-dl.exe) and place it in any location on their [PATH](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PATH_%28variable%29) except for `%SYSTEMROOT%\System32` (e.g. **do not** put in `C:\Windows\System32`).
